Hello all, I'm new here and I'm simply trying to find out some more advice and maybe you all can help. First off I will tell you that I live in the Chicago area, and I need help selecting some home theater speakers (satelites) that I would hope are better than Bose, I have NOT have much luck with these although I have limited space due to my girlfriend not understanding stereo equipment she doesnt want huge speakers all over the our new house.
I would first tell you all that I have a Sony STR-DE1075 receiver and I enjoy listening to both music (alternative music) and watch movies witht his system. I would love to purchase some speakers in the upcoming weeks that would complement this receiver. I have been instructed to purchase (by many salesmen) either the Definitive Technologies pro-monitor 1000's or the B&W M-1's, I was also told about some Canton's (although I dont recall the model). Can you all help in my choice? I was looking to spend about 1500 (USC) and also is this receiver strong enough for these speakers? Thanks in advance for you help on this VERY important choice.
thanks again,
Rodney :)

Go listen to each speaker set to see what you like, since we all hear and perceive what is good sound differently you will have to decide by your own critique which ones you will buy. Assuming the receiver has no problems it will power most any sub/sat speaker system you connect to it.

Best of luck to you.:)

Thanks for the quick reply, I have listened to the Canton's and the B&W's at the store, just was hoping someone could tell me if they own either of the speakers listed, and if they enjoyed them, I still will try to listen to the Definitive's before I buy. As far as the receiver goes, I have done nothing to damage it, it seems to work now powering my Klipsch system, dont really want to buy a new one as of yet, but if I was suggested to I would consider it, for more power if needed. Thanks again for your quick advice....

I can't help you with brands, especially without knowing your budget but I think your best compromise is book shelf speakers and a sub woofer. Satellites just don't cut it for me. There are a number of people in here that have based very nice systems on bookshelf speakers. Even better would be finding attractive towers.

I was hoping around 1500 (I thought I posted that) sorry if I didnt, but that is what I was hoping to spend, I did find the Def techs 1000's for $999, and they reg sell for 1499, so I thought that was a great deal, thats a complete set 5 satelits and a sub (powered). Dont think the girlfriend would go for the bookshelves and the sub thing, would like to have them on the wall.... thanks for your reply,
Rodney

The best on-wall I've heard at a reasonable price was the Paradigm Cinema series. Not the little ones, but the 110 or 220. They would come in a little over half your budget for a 5.1 system. This is just another example of something you should go audition and see if you like them.

I've heard the DefTech Mythos and wouldn't spend the extra money for those over the Paradigm Cinema, although I have not heard the Pro-monitor 1000's or the B&W.

If I were to buy sattelite speakers, I'd take a look at orbaudio. They are beautiful, ship free, and have an easy return policy. I have conversed with the folks over there and they are quite nice. The speakers are absolutely beautiful. They have had favorable tests done by audioholics and others. You can get a full system in your price range easy.
