It's always upgrade time at Audioholics, Bird.

Your speakers make the biggest difference in the sound you hear from your system. It might be time to start casually auditioning speakers until you find some that are a definite upgrade over what you have. Generally, receivers are replaced when the feature set grows outdated. Receivers don't generally provide much in the way of sound quality increase except in the case (potentially) of adding the newer HD formats.

The newer HD Formats Is what i'm concerned about, if I was to get a Onkyo TX-SR876 for instance what kind of improvement would something like that be, would it be worth it with everything else I have?

Why not use the analog inputs of the receiver with a bluray player that also has analog outs?

Instant Dolby TruHD and DTS Master Hd

I run the hdmi from my Pioneer 51fd straight to my Pioneer 151, analogs to my Marantz SR8500

Dish receiver hdmi to 151, digital optical to Marantz

Apple TV component to 151, digital optical to Marantz

Pretty sure you can. My receiver (Pioneer Elite vsx-82txs) has a lot of configuration options for each input.

I've never tried mixing and matching digital over HDMI and analog audio, but it sure doesn't seem like it's out of the realm of possibility.

I have held off on getting that Oppo BDP-83 (or whatever it's called) as my AVR doesn't do HDMI 1.3 (only up to 1.2). However, I can take solace in:
- There aren't many Blu Ray titles out there that take full advantage of this
- There isn't a Blu Ray hi-res audio format out there (yet)

And, since my display will only do 1080i, I'm just going to have to hold off on dropping a few $K on a new AVR and display.

Still, check out your AVR's manual and see about configuring the inputs. That's the best place to find out. If you don't have the owner's manual anymore, go to Pioneer's web site and download the PDF of it.

I would return the LG 390 and get the LG 370 along with something simple like the Denon 1610/590. Put the rest towards upgrading your speakers.

Did BluRay ever get to 1080p disks? If not, don't underestimate component video as a connection method.
