trying to decide

i'm thinking about getting either the sony 598 or pioneer 515. i've got an older sony 5.1 and i want to upgrade,i haven't had any trouble from the sony but would like to get a 6.1 no real need for a 7.1 small room,thanks for your opinions and help.

The Sony states.
90 watts x 6 into 8 ohms (20-20,000 Hz) at 0.09% THD 21.8lbs

The Pioneer states.
110 Watts x 6, 1.0% THD, 1 KHz, 8 ohms 21lbs

The features look similar. They probably sound the same. I would have to give the Sony a slight edge.

I wouldn't recommend the Sony.

if not, try to find a Yamaha HTR-5740 on E-bay or Audiogon. All of these would be better choices.

Budget receiver

Look for the Yamaha HTR-5840 and Onkyo 503 from authorized dealers for <$200. You should also be able to find refurbished Onkyo and Denon receiver with a warranty from sites like ecost.com.

Aviod the Sony. Go with the Pioneer, also look at the Yamaha HTR-5830 its in the same price range.
