I recently purchased True RTA to calibrate my sub with EQ since I was never able to get REW to work with my current hardware properly.

I used the Avia disc and it's LFE sweep as my signal to EQ my sub.

My question is what other signal generators could I use that are not so long as the sweep in the Avia disc? That one just takes too long, plus navigating the tracks to repeat the sweep is a little cumbersome.

I'd prefer a sweep using my laptop and not the DVD player. I've used the signal generator in REW but it seems that the response has constant peaks and dips unrelated to room modes; far more in fact compared to using the LFE sweep from the Avia disc. Both tests were done using the 1/24th resolution. Perhaps I should just decrease the resolution?

I thought TrueRTA had a sweep feature in it besides the quicksweep. I use an RS digital SPL meter and the quicksweep is too fast to plot anything consistently.

What are your thoughts on sources that will allow me to generate a 5-10 second sweep that will produce acceptable plots for me to work with?

Seriously, I have no life.

What mic and input module are you using to record with? Any on-board mic in a computer won't work for this- it needs to be calibrated and accurate. You can use the computer as the source for the sweeps- look on teh left side and you'll see a generator. It has drop downs for Sine, Square, sawtooth, pink noise, white noise, etc. That would be your source, using the M-Audio, Tascam or whatever Input/Output device you decide on.

What is REW? I didn't see that anywhere on the basic version.

REW is a program called 'Room Equalization Wizard'.

I use a Turtle Beach Advantage external USB soundcard. My SPL meter is a radioshack digital meter. The generator in TrueRTA on the left is only for specific frequencies waves of the various types (sine, square, pink noise, etc). I need a frequency sweep from x to y. The quicksweep doesn't work with my hardware.

I found some subwoofer sweeps over at Home Theater Shack, also home of the creators of REW, which is free room equalization software. I'm going to give those a shot and see if things work out with those sweeps.

Seems strange that you pay $100.00 for some room EQ software and the software doesn't even have a decent sweep generator. I guess it has other features that I'll probably never use that make the price as much as it is.
