I had been wanting to see this one since I liked the original, and I didn't find it disappointing. I do think the original was a bit better however, as the new one drops out some sequences that added some fine detail in the original. Overall, it was still a pretty solid film IMO, with all the performances being good. I felt it was a decent "refreshening". Sound was very good, PQ good, so overall thumbs up.

Clearly, the larger portion of Hollywood is running out of new ideas and are dipping back into the remake bucket and are remaking some films that probably don't really need it (this one, Mad Max, Conan, etc....)

I also saw this the other night and concur with your assessment.

I liked the new one better. As much as I liked The Duke, he didn't seem to have it in him to be as deteriorated and profane as the character should be. Jeff Bridges didn't have that problem. I could almost smell the booze on his breath and the month old BO through the screen.
