I have a sony str-de915. After moving and trying to set up my reciever there is a message PROTECTOR on the LCD. I have read the manual and can not find any thing that resembles this problem. Help i'm stumped

Hi

Doublecheck that there are no stray speaker wires/strands touching the casing. It sounds like it's gone into protection mode due to a short circuit or something.

What Jase has suggested is the most likely cause. Check all wires in the back to make sure that no strands are touching either the receiver itself or the strands from the other speakers.

If this doesn't work then try disconnecting all of your speakers. Turn the unit on with nothing connected. If the receiver doesn't power up and does not go into protection mode it's time for the shop. If it powers up fine then hook up your speakers one at a time to see if you can recreate the safety mode problem. It is possible a speaker has blown and is causing this problem. It may be time for it to go to the shop instead of the receiver. After this I am stumped.

That thing is so old, I'd say it's about time for a new receiver. My second receiver was an 815. They were ahead of their time with features when they were new, but now they are all but obsolete.
