hey,
hope someone can help me with this...

i just bought a new phillips tv but i'm having trouble getting 5.1 sound out of it.

i've got a ps3 and pc hooked up to the tv via hdmi,
the tv is hooked to a creative decoder ddts 100 via a spdif coaxial cable.
the problem is that the output is still stereo.

when i conect the ps3 via an optical cable directly to the decoder i get my surround sound but i would like to have everything go through the tv to have to use less cables and remote controls.
is this possible and if yes what am i doing wrong?

to recap:

ps3\pc -hdmi-> tv -spdif\coaxial-> ddts decoder -> no surround sound?!

thanks to anyone who can help me with this.

Welcome to the forum!

Many TVs will convert any audio that comes in over HDMI into two-channel audio when output from their optical audio output jack. This might be the case with your TV. I know of at least one TV (I forget the model) that will output surround from the optical jack, but it needs to have something set in the menu system.

If you'll let us know the model number of your TV, we can check on the details if you'd like.
