Trouble with hookup, audio & video

I can't get audio and video from blu-ray or DVD to TV from Reciever. TV is Samsung LN46A650 LCD flat screen, receiver is Pioneer VSX-1018AH-K. Blu-Ray is hooked to receiver via HDMI. Receiver is hooked to TV via HDMI, and optical digital cable. When I play the blu-ray, I get nothing on the TV. I've double/triple checked connections, but obviously I have something wrong. I've read the set-up specs on both till my eyes are crossed. What am I missing?

Some questions:
1. Is the HDMI output from the Blu-ray player connected to the "BD IN" HDMI input on the receiver? If so, are you selecting the Blu-ray player as the source on the 1018?
2. Are you trying to listen to the Blu-ray through the receiver or through the speakers in the TV? Make sure that you set up the receiver to either process the audio (to play through the receiver) or pass the audio (to play through the speakers on the TV) over the HDMI connection.
