Trouble with automatic turntable

I have a recently acquired a Technics sl-qd33 turntable which has an automatic feature. When I press the start/stop button the arm picks up and heads for the right area, but then it drops down a little early and falls off the edge of the record. Is is possible to adjust this? I don't know much about turntables and any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
