Trouble with a Denon AVR-2802

Hi all,
I am having an issue with my Denon AVR-2802. Periodically over the last 2 weeks my subs completely cut out. This happens when I am listening to music and when watching DVD's. I have a pair of Def Tech BP2006 towers and a Def Tech CLR 2300. I have used the speaker configuration menu to check the levels of the channels and sometimes the I get the test sound for the subs and sometimes I don't. I have checked the connections and that does not seem to be the issue.

I have tried, (I thought with some success) to change to 'no' sub setting, power the unit off, then power on and reset to 'yes' subs. Then I was able to get the test tone again. But 2 days later, no subs again.

Anyone experience this type of problem?
Any advice?

This is particularly frustrating to me since I am starting the process of building a HT in my newly refinished basement and was considering the Denon 4306.

Thanks in advance,

Pheaton

It seems like there may be an issue with the sub pre-out on the 2802. You might also check the connections. If you're using a Y-adapter, try running the sub-out to just one of the speakers.

Also check to see if your sub has an "auto on" feature. Sometimes if it doesn't get much bass or the volume is lower it will turn itself off. Mine have done this before, especially at low volumes or on movies without much LF. Check to see that the light is green, if it has one, or manually turn it on to check this. If that's the problem, then leave the switch in the "on" position instead of "auto."

Also, just to be sure, try swapping out your sub cable. A video or digital coax cable will work fine.

Hi all,
AVRat, hole in one. I rechecked the y-connector and as I was checking the second lead, it fell apart in my hand. So I replaced that yesterday, and so far so good. Thanks for the help.
