Trouble using audio out jacks on TV when connecting with HDMI on Pioneer VSX-1021

I am trying to connect a wireless headset to the audio out jacks on my Mitsubishi DLP TV but I'm getting no audio. I have a Pioneer VSX-1021-K receiver and I connect all components (cable box, blueray, and Apple TV) to the receiver. I connect the receiver to the TV with an HDMI cable. When I select HDMI as the input on my TV, I no longer can adjust the TV speaker volume nor do the audio out jacks on the tv deliver any audio. If I hook something up to the component input on my TV and select that as the input source on the tv, the audio out and tv speakers work as expected. [

I've tried every combination of settings on the receiver and tv that seem possible and I can't get audio on the audio out jacks with any setting when I use HDMI as the input to the tv. Is this normal? Is there a diff way I should be connecting the wireless headset?/PHP]

Hi, and welcome to the forum! I would connect the headphones directly to the receiver, probably using the zone 2 output jacks. To use the audio out on the TV, you'll need to go into the receiver's menu and have it output audio over HDMI.

Thanks for the reply. I tried to send the audio over the HDMI but that didn't change anything. I'll try to do something with the zone 2 to see if that works. I also thought I might override the headphones setting to use headphones and speakers but I can't find a way to output over the speakers when the headphones are plugged in on the front of the receiver. This is frustrating. It doesn't make sense why the audio wouldn't work when using HDMI.

Any audio output from the tv will be only from sources which the tv itself can provide (ie antenna).

As Adam suggests, your best bet is an output from the receiver.

I suspect that you might have lip sync issues if you are going to use a zone 2 output.

What is the desired outcome with the headset?
