Trouble getting Sony BDP-S185 to output DTS-HD to Onkyo TX-SR308 over HDMI

Hi, Guys :)

The trouble I'm having is getting my Sony BDP-S185 to output DTS-HD or Dolby True-HD to my Onkyo TX-SR308 receiver using an HDMI while watching a bluray. The audio signal displayed on my receiver is PCM. However, when I hit the audio button on my bluray player the audio box that pop's up on my TV says the player is outputting DTS-HD. Truth be told, it's sounds like my receiver is outputting DTS-HD, but I'm suspicious because the receiver says its outputting PCM. Also, when I play a 720p MKV file with DTS audio on my bluray player my receiver displays and outputs DTS no problem.

Under audio settings > HDMI my bluray player is set to "Auto" with the only other option being PCM

Here is the physical setup I have. I'm running an HDMI cable from from my bluray player into my receiver and a HDMI cable from my receiver to my TV.

I appreciate any suggests you guys may have :)

Thanks,
Scott

Your player is set to output PCM, and as long as that receiver can decode it properly (sounds like it does) then there isn't a problem. The only difference is whether the player or the receiver is decoding the signal.

Assuming your receiver is capable of decoding those formats, there are a couple of settings on the BD player you need to change from the defaults in order to bitstream those formats. Go to the Audio Settings menu on your BD player and verify these settings. If all are correct and your AVR is capable of decoding the formats you mentioned, the receiver should kick on the appropriate indicator for the audio format being bitstreamed.

Audio (HDMI) > Auto
BD Audio MIX > Off
Dolby Digital > Dolby Digital
DTS > DTS
