Tropic Thunder!!!!!!!

As many of you know I have been a little stressed lately due to my Mom's illness. As such, I decided to go see Tropic Thunder as a means mostly to get away for a little while. To be honest, this movie was quite funny, but did NOT find it to be as good as I had anticipated. Of course, I do have a lot on my mind and as such this may have played a part in my disappointment. However, please don't take me wrong as there were some very funny parts. It was just not as funny as I hoped it would be. Have to give this movie a mediocre rating at best.

Cheers,

Phil

Thanks for the review, Phil. Sorry that it wasn't able to bring more relief to your stress. I'm sure that I'll rent it from Netflix, but I don't have to worry as much about mediocre movies - I can always just change the channel. :)

I think the movie starts off pretty well and had me laughing a lot but in the 4th quarter, it sort of loses it. Tom Cruise and Downey are great in it still!

Hey Adam!!!! Good to hear from you my friend. Please don't take me wrong-the movie served the purpose. That is, it allowed me to get away from all of this stress for a bit. I also thought Robert Downey Jr. did a fantastic job. He seems to be in his prime. Lots of talent imho. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers,

Phil

Very much agreed here. I was a bit surprised to see Mathew McConohay (not sure I spelled that correctly) and Tom Cruise in the movie. Anyways, thanks for sharing Blue.

Tom Cruise was the only thing I enjoyed. It was still a better movie than Balls of Fury, Rush Hour 3 or Jumper. That's not really saying much, is it?

Interesting perspective. I also liked Tom Cruise, but thought Robert Downey Jr. did a great job as well. As per classification, I have to agree for the most part. Thanks for sharing my friend.

Granted, that movie kinda blew...but I did like the trailer. "Gives 'wax off' a whole new meaniiiiiiiing." :)

[A line that was actually done differently in the movie, unfortunately.]

Hi Jamie that could easily be my friend. Downey was amazing imho. Gotten to where I really like him. I know he went through some tough times himself, but hey he never gave up. Have to admire a man like that. Looking forward to seeing many more movies with him in it. But, you do have a point as always......LOL!!!!! :p:p

From an email my father sent me:

"I took your mother to see Tropic Thunder this afternoon. When we left the theater she was not speaking to me at all. Things did get better when I took her out for Cuban food after the movie. Regardless what she says it was very funny."

I nearly pissed myself when he sent me that :D.

I agree that it's probably a rental or a matinee priced movie.

I would have to agree, but it did serve the purpose of getting away so to speak. Otherwise, it would have been a rental for sure. Thanks for posting.

Regardless of the reviews, and this type of movie gets a mixed bag of them, I'll definitely rent it when it becomes available.
Possibly by myself, but none the less..........

I wasn't aware that Cruise was in this.

not that that's a bad thing.

Yeah, I also was surprised about Tom Cruise being in this one. The same holds true for Matthew McConaughey (soory if I misspelled it). Thanks for posting Nomo.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned one particular scene in Tropic Thunder, where one of the characters was talking about the growing popularity of Blu-ray disc, and how it trumped over HD DVD. I was laughing my ace off during that scene, but of course, I was the only one in the theatre who found it funny. :(

Overall, that was one funny, funny movie. Two thumbs up. :)

In the game Metal Gear Solid 4, there are two refereces to Blu-ray openly made; both are very funny.

You know I thought there was something mentioned about BR. Did not get the specific details you did, but at least now I know I wasn't hearing things. :D:D Thanks for mentioning that and sharing with us.

Hey John, I am not a gamer but I will take your word for it. Guess it would be quite funny mentioning BR. Thanks for posting.

Both of the references in the game are to the original game. At one point you are stopped and prompted for "Disc 2" and then the guy says "Oh, wait, this is a 50G dual layer Blu-ray..." and starts laughing.

Interesting..........guess I need to live a bit more eh? Maybne gaming is more fun than I have ever anticipated. :D:D Once again, the PS3 is looking to be a good option for me.
