Troobleshoot Paradigm sub

My paradigm pw2200 sub is having problems. It sounds like the driver is hitting something when pushed hard. I has a loud rattle. I know a fair amount about the electronics side of things but not much about speaker repair.
1. How should I troubleshoot this. Should I just assume from the sound that the driver is blown?
2. How should I go about sourcing and replacing the driver? (assuming that is the problem)

No trouble shooting necessary, the driver is damaged. Contact your Paradigm dealer as you will want to use the same driver.

Something is out of alignment, the voice coil is rubbing the magnet structure or is hitting the magnet structure because of the travel. The spider could be damaged causing alignment issues that cause rubs, and could be torn all the way round cause the voice coil to smack the magnet.

See if you can just order another woofer from Paradigm for that model and replace it yourself, unless the driver is still under warranty, then I would send it in for them to repair. They will be able to tell you the warranty details of the unit if you bought it from a dealer and you have the Serial # ready.

This maybe way off but my brand new Paradigm sub was making a really loud and aweful noice during certain frequencies. I thought something was really wrong but I couldn't really figure it out. After trying different sounds, movies and music I was puzzled. Turned out to be the sound of the sub feet moving on my hardwood floors. My AV store laughed when I told them and said "I forgot you had hardwoods, stop by after work" He gave me 4 fake boobs looking things and the sound went away.

Give it a try; I couldnt figure out what the heck it was but the sub sure works great now. If it doesnt work you can always just snuggle up with the fake boobies...

I think we have a winner. I put a rug under it and it seems to have stopped. Funny, it didn't sound like it was coming from the feet. I haven't run it up really loud yet but I'm hopefull. Thanks.

Just as I suspected - boobies can fix most any problem :D

talk about a degenerate thread. Here someone asks a serious question and now we're talkings about boobies and carpet.:D

But it looks like the boobies solved the problem; usually they just cause more problems.

Moverton may have just saved himself the price of a woofer and I am only charging him $20 for the advice!

Seriously though Moverton; the sound I had didnt sound like it was coming from the feet moving but it was. The only reason I considered trying the boobies was the fact that my sub was 6 inches from where it started after a movie.

Yeah, I'm glad that was all it was. Based on what you said in the original post, it sounded like something had really gone wrong.
