Trade Klipsch's for RBH's?

Greetings audioholics from a new poster!

I have a pair of Klipsch Quartets, in excellent condition, that I'm considering selling because they just don't work for the environment I'm now living in. There's a guy that wants to trade me his pair of 5-6 year old RBH Signature Series speakers. He says they're the equivalent to the RBH 661-SE's available today and if the dimensions are the same or similar, would be a much better fit. Assuming they too, are in excellent condition, would this be a good trade?

Thank you very much for your time and opinions.

This thread belongs in the Classifieds section. And I am not sure, but you may not be able to post about sale, trade, or Want to buy until you have achieved a certain amount of posts. I am not certain on this however.

Go and really listen to the speakers he wants to trade. Decide for yourself that way. The Quartets are fantastic speakers. My Dad has a pair and we're trying to decide what to do with them because he wants to run a 5.1 system and is having difficulty finding speakers to match in the rear and center. We're trying to avoid replacing them as much as we can because he likes them so much.

Just because someone says their speakers are equivalent to such-and-such doesn't mean that they are. Ask him exactly what model they are and then query RBH to get their view on what a comparable model in today's world would be. They'll be the expert on this. I would assume that the individual who wants to trade sees some sort of advantage in the straight up trade or they wouldn't be willing to do it.

Watch ebay, audiogon.com and craigslist to see what people are selling them for(I've been seeing asking prices of ~$400.00). Then check out what the other speakers are going for. If they're not equivalent in monetary value or the Klipsch sell for more, then it isn't a good deal in my view. Don't sell yourself short. I'm not a huge Klipsch listener or enthusiast, but the Quartets have always sounded great. Huge speakers, very efficient, and very neutral.

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't want to come across as trying to sell them on this forum and it certainly wasn't my intent. In order to provide the background for my question, I had to include the reason for potential trade. If I do decide to sell, it will be a local only deal, no shipping. If I crossed the line, I apologize.

You put your post in the right place. Maybe Seth=L didn't read the whole thing. I also think you got a pretty good answer from pzaur.

Cool. I know every forum is different and I didn't want to bust any rules, especially in my first post.

I completely agree with pzaur and thank him for the great advice. I've inquired about the specific model # of the RBH's he wants to trade and will post it here for any additional comments folk may have on that particular set of speakers. If they appear to be comparable from a market value standpoint, I'll give them a listen and go from there. I'm hoping they will be a good fit for a small home theater system. More to follow.

Ok, the guy that wants to trade says his RBH's are the model 816 series and are about 10 years old. He admitted being a little off with the age. They're light oak colored with black covers with RBH logos in the top left and the dimensions are about 25h x 12w x 15d. I tried doing a Google search and couldn't find anything about these speakers. I realize the listen factor should be the overriding factor in making my decision but I'd like to know if anyone had heard of them and if they're comparable in market price and quality. Thanks again.
