My Denon channel DB settings are:
Mains -5db
Center +1.5db
Surrounds +0.5db
Sub -12db

Maybe this info helps with your responses.
bring the Mains level close to 0db (then ease of the master volume by the equal number of db's)

subwoofer should also be as close to 0db as possible (decrease the gain on the subwoofer then recalibrate)

confused

im a little confused on that recommendation. wont that just keep the mains at the same volume & make all the other speakers quieter?

The sub db in the denon is -12db but the db volume knob on the sub itself is at -3db.

then there is the EXT. IN SW level & that is set at 0db
(opt: 0db, 5db, 10db & 15db)
the denon manual recommends setting it at 15db (seems wat too high). i had it at 5db & that was when i had the prob with it shutting off bout 3 times in a 2 month period. since ive dialed the sub down a bit i havent had any probs & the driver excursion is still really intense at times. Id say a good 1.5" at times maybe more.

it's possible you could be clipping the signal to the sub. does the sub's gain knob have db increments? how do you know it's -3db?

anyway, whatever that is ... you really need to lower the gain on the sub and recalibrate your receiver.
