What are the pros and cons of either configuration? I've seen some really expensive towers that are only 2 way, 2 driver. But then I've seen some moderately priced 3 way, 6 driver speakers as well. I've even seen 2.5 way speakers, typically in centre channels.
I realize that more "smaller diameter" woofers means lower frequency response, hence a 6 driver configuration (where 4 of the 6 are for the bass). But why would someone design a 2 way 2 speaker system? Wouldn't the crossover be too high. Going from a 1" tweeter to an 8" woofer seems wrong.
I've searched on google, but came up empty handed. Does any one here know?
