Totem Acoustic and Axiom QS8

Hi All,

Long time reader first time poster.

Does anyone have any experience with the Axiom surround speakers like the multipolar QS8.

Most of my listening is strictly stereo music (90%) which I run on Totem Hawks. I'm trying to complete the home theatre side of things but having trouble with the bipolar and monopolar debate. What would match well with the Totem's for surround sound? Thinking of the Axiom QS8 for its original in-phase quadpolar design and defused sound field.

Seeing how you're more of a music guy, I think you'd be best off with a set of similar bookshelves as surrounds. The Axioms sound cool for movies (nifty soundfield). But when I compared them to my setup with bookshelf surrounds, multi-channel music was much better with my setup. That's my opinion of course.

I agree with Jaxvon. You should get speakers with the same tweeter in them if possible for a more seemless transition from speaker to speaker. I looked on Totems website and didn't see a bookshelf that matches. I would email them or call your local Totem dealer and ask.

BTW how do you like the Hawks?

I was at a dealer listening to the Forests and was impressed with the sound of the highs and mids but thought they were a little pricy for the lack of midbass. Could have been the room / setup though. They had a 15" sub playing with them (horrible for music IMO) and I didn't have time to play around with it.

stringbadF1,

I've been enjoying the Hawk's for almost a year now. They are best with Jazz, acoustic, and classical. The sound is nice and warm with detailed highs. They do out put enough bass for my tastes, I fire up the subwoofer when I start playing freaky bass heavy Dub music. I recently moved into a new place and the sound improved dramatically, the sound stage just openned up like it never did at the old room. The old listening room was the dreaded cube with very bad acoustics. I think these speakers are very dependant on the mode of the listening room.

But after a year I still haven't settled on what to do with the surround speakers. The wires are in place but still no surround. :(

jaxvon- Don't plan on getting into multi-channel music, so sound field should shine for movies only.
