OK I know that my Bose 901 VI are probably very old school to most of you guys, but I could use a little help from someone crusty enough to help. Its time for an upgrade of my system and I doing it one piece at a time.

Simple questions

Can I drive the 901s from a Yamaha V2700?

Do I connect the 901s (active equalizer) to the "PRE OUT-FRONT" connection?

Will the YPAO setup still function?

How will this effect my multi-room zone (large house) capabilities?

I have read searched the postings and came across only one post, not exactly what I need.

Lastly, will I be content with this setup for at least some time?

Thanks for your patience.

The 901s w/active EQ can’t be used with most current receivers alone. The new receivers don’t have the tape monitor loop feature like vintage receivers. Nor do most have pre/main-ins to use the pre-outs. In most cases, you need a separate amp to make proper use of your 901s.

Agreed
I have never owned a pair . But freinds i know did and still do , there a pretty fine speaker and need more than what a Yammy reciever can give them to sound good . I agree with AVIrat , that you need a separate power amp to make them sing , preferably 150 w RMS and over . The more power the better for these babies .
If your gonna go Multizone with these , i would scrub the Multi zone and just get a used pre/ pro and a CD player and set it up in your room and have 2 separate systems ( 1 for HT and 1 for music , hell i have 2 pre's with multi zone and i dont use the multi zone feature in both and run 3 separate systems in my house) .
Those 901's are very good speakers and worth building a 2nd 2 channel system around .

Speaker connections

That yamaha receiver is not lacking in power by any means. It just lacks the pre-amp inputs to feed the output of the pre-amp into the speaker EQ and back to the amp stage. I would start shopping for a new HT speaker system and use the bose in another room with an old receiver with the appropriate connections.

The only way I can see it working with the RXV2700 is to connect the equalizer to the pre-outs, then connect a separate amp.

There is a "multi channel" input but it's meant for external surround decoders. When selected, it disables its internal decoders.

I've only had the unit for a few days, but that's what I can glean from the manual.
