Toslink vs. coaxial ,which is better to use? Why? My DVD player has both.

Optical -

Pro's:
- Free from interference.
- Sometimes a handy light
Con's:
- Cheaper cables don't make a great connection
- Not as bendable as Coax
- Expensive

Coax -

Pro's:
- Bendable(er)
- Solid connection for less money
- Cheaper then Optical
Con's
- Prone RF noise
- no handy light

I think thats it.

I didn't feel like refuting your vague explanations.

Vague, but enough to the point.;)
Especially for someone that does not want a scientific explanation.

Basically it is futile to try and explain it. They are both digital connections.
Some like one over the other. For short runs (under 15') either will be fine and have no clearcut advantages.
For longer runs (around 30'+) I would go with optical (unless there are a lot of bends to get from source to destination)
If you are running behind walls coax would be better (but then it may also pickup interference)

EDIT:: Also no big deal: for the O/P, this has been talked about many times at this forum.
All that is needed to do is try a search with those two words. (Just for future information)

Six of one, half dozen of another.

Now if we could get that optical cable from that TV outlet, or sat dish to the audio system, half the ground loop issues would be history:D

Just had another such problem solved on the other forum.
