Toslink Splitter - Male Adapter Available?

Hey Guys,

I currently have a home theater receiver, with optical audio output, connected to my TV. I recently purchased an XBox 360 and want to basically buy a splitter and additional cable so I can take advantage of my home theater system when playing the Xbox as well.

My question is, I've been looking at Toslink splitter's, trying to find a MALE input plug, and have come empty. Basically, I want to have an adapter that plugs into my receiver (male toslink plug) and then have 2 audio output cables (female toslink plugs) where I can plug in a toslink cable for my tv and another cable for my Xbox.

However, doing my research all I've found online so far are adapters that have ALL female ports. So I would have to have a toslink cable from my receiver to the adapter, than the other 2 additional separate toslink cables to each device (TV and XBox). I wanted to save myself one cable (and some extra cabling mess) if there was a male input adapter, but I haven't found one yet.

If anyone can guide me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum, Asif! I've looked around a bit and haven't found what you're looking for. Perhaps you're stuck with using a short cable to the receiver, but luckily those cables are really inexpensive these days.

Just a note - you probably want to get a Toslink switch (like this, for example) instead of a splitter/combiner. If both the TV and Xbox are sending a signal to a combiner, your receiver won't be able to interpret one from the other. I'm guessing that you're going to have your TV and Xbox on at the same time when playing the Xbox (unless you have your Xbox connected to another monitor), so the TV will likely always be sending an optical signal down the cable and the audio wouldn't work correctly with a simple combiner.

Btw, which receiver do you have? Perhaps there's another good option for running the audio.

Agreeing with Adam on this. You should be using a toslink switch, not a splitter/combiner unit as it will confuse and complicate things.

Also agree that you really should list your A/V receiver make/model as most receivers have at least two digital inputs, and if you aren't using your coaxial digital audio input, then you probably should go with a optical to coaxial converter like this one:

If you haven't looked at the Monoprice website, you should look at buying your cables from there. About 20 bucks will cover every cable you will need for whatever way you decide to go.

Oh, and in reference to your very first question, I have NOT seen what you are asking about. I don't even think they make a male-male toslink coupler.
