They both send the same information. It shouldn't make a difference. One possible benefit of toslink is that it is unaffected by EM interference if you have to pass the cable through a tangle of wires.

Toslink optical can be a much smaller cable in diameter and easier to run than digital coaxial cable, but both will work equally well.

Coaxial can be in longer runs, if that matters.
