Toshiba Super Thin Bezel

What do you guys think of the Toshiba 40XF550U. It's the largest screen I could find to fit in the space I have. I haven't read much about it, and don't know enough to make an informed judgment anyway. Thought you could fill me in a little. This is for movies only. We don't have broadcast TV, don't plan on getting in in the future and it will be hooked up to my stereo, so sound isn't a problem.

Could one of their lesser models like the 40RF350U be just as good for us. We'll be sitting about 8' away in a dimly lit room.

Thanks, John

I've had the 52XF550 for about 4 months now and it is mostly flawless. You can see minor clouding on an all black screen but that seems to be a characteristic common to all LCDs. The Movie mode is fairly close to the standard 6500K color temperature (from published reviews) and if you turn the brightness down a notch or two even the minor clouding disappears. I'm pretty happy with the purchase.

The super thin bezel really is super thin (about 3/4") and disappears when you turn the lights down so it appears to be all image floating in the air. The only minor negative to me is Toshiba is following the horrible trend of using bright blue LEDs on everything but at least they were thoughtfull enough to make the lowest setting actually pretty low so it is not distracting in a dark room.

I was seriously looking at the 52XF550U as my new HDTV (I cant stand the Samsung Touch of Color) .. One thing to note about he XF550U is that even though the bezel is very thin, its 6 inches deep.

I did a little more research and found a new best HDTV, the Toshiba 52XV545U! It has everything and more the 50XF550U from a technological perspective thought the bezel is slightly bigger. One feature im really excited for on the XV550U is the SRT technology which supposedly upconverts SD video to near HD quality!!!

Yes, and it is also a tad heavier than some of the others. I believe my 52XF550 weighs 102 lbs when some of the other brands clock in at only 80 lbs. That might be a small consideration if you want to wall mount it.

Is that a new soon-to-be-released model? The 52XF540 is out and differs very slightly from the 550. Mainly it does not have the thin bezel, has 4 HDMI inputs instead of 3, and weighs only 80ish pounds like some of the competing brands. Ironically, it was a couple bucks cheaper than the 550 but it wasn't available when I was ready and I could wait no longer.
