Any thoughts on Toshiba 42" LCD'S?

Which model of Toshiba LCD?

I bought the 52LX177 last November and for the most part it was very good. I had a few minor reservations about it though so I returned it with the intention of getting a new one at the beginning of the year when I returned from vacation. But then they announced the 2008 line-up and they look even better. I'll be getting the 52XF550 in the very near future once I complete my floor remodeling for my house.

In general I like Toshiba TVs. I've owned a few over the years and they've always been reliable.

Toshiba makes some good TVs for the money. I bought a 42" Toshiba LCD earlier this year, which was the replacement for a model that Consumer Reports listed as a "Best Buy" (meaning, it was a good set at a good price). It isn't the best of the best, but it cost very little more than off brand sets, and is better than some of the pricier models from other manufacturers. I think if you are not wanting to blow vast amounts of money on a set, and want something reliable and that will give a good picture, Toshiba is hard to beat.

But, as MDS said, it depends on the particular model in question. However, as a general rule, I think Toshiba makes a good set for the money.

That is the TV I have, and that is (at the moment I checked on it) a good price for it from a reputable company. I doubt you will currently find a better 42" LCD TV for that price, depending upon what your needs are. You might want to look at the reviews at:

The main downside to it would be if you have PAL sources that you wanted to view on it; read the "Most Helpful" customer review at the above link for more on that. I personally use an Oppo DV-983H to upconvert PAL DVDs to 720p @ 60 Hz for it and that works very well. But the TV cannot accept native PAL and display it properly.

And if you are planning on sitting about 8 feet or more from it, it won't matter at all that it isn't 1080p, as it is impossible for a human with 20/20 vision to see finer detail than 720p on a screen that size at that distance; see:

It is really a good TV for that price. Of course, if you had 10 times as much to spend on a TV, you could get something bigger and better.

Crutchfield, by the way, has an excellent return policy (NEVER, NEVER, NEVER simply trust a claim like this from some random person like me who posts on line; check the policy at their web site before ordering). But after reading the review mentioned above, if you think you want it, I doubt you will want to return it. It is really good for the money.

Any of you guys viewed the Toshiba 46RF350U Regza 46''

If so what did you think of it compared to the higher priced Sony/Sharp LCDs

I have been considering the Sony KDL-46XBR5 , but i have seen other LCD tvs with as good a picture that costs less. I am a bit confused now on what i want.

Basically i want the most TV for the money. Are the Sonys worth it?
I like the idea of the Thin bezel on the Toshiba.

I have owned alot of Toshiba products and all of them have been top notch.

This TV will be my first large screen, It will also be my first large LCD.
I dont want to make a $2000+ mistake.

Any comments or advice will be welcomed.

Toshiba 42hl67

Went ahead and pulled the trigger on the 42hl67 for $999.99. Should be delivered in the next week or so.
