They also have pre-order Blu-ray movies:
Crash $39.99
Lord of War $39.99
The Punisher $29.99

Given the current US-AU DVD prices, those titles would retail for around AU$60-80 compared to HD-DVD at about AU$30-40(on par with current DVD's). IMO that puts a big nail in the Blu-ray coffin before it even begins:rolleyes:

cheers:)

No way in hell I'm paying 40 dollars to own a movie, not gonna happen

The Toshiba player is good and all, but there are so many holes in the design of HD-DVD. I know they rushed the release to get a jump on Bluray, but I probably will not invest in a player until they decide to support full 1080p. Also, the advances in trueAudio or whatever it is called will be nice.

I guess you guys never bought Laserdiscs. $40 was an average price for them.

That's one reason laserdisc failed.

The other being the fact that they were the same size as the wheels of my car.

I remember when I was a kid we watched some nature show off a laser disc. It was really cool but looked like a newage record.:)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't a lot of DVDs $40 when they first came out too? That price is going to come down...quite fast I would imagine.

Yes but the point is that HD-DVD's have only just hit the stores and they are already under US$20 in-line with many current new release DVD's. For Blu-ray to be competitive they would need to retail at the same price point.

cheers:)
