Topping vx1 as a preamp.

Hi all.
Is it OK to use the headphone output of a Topping VX1 dac to connect direct into the RCA input of a Demon stereo amp? Thanks in advance.

Yes, but you are connecting a low power amplifier to a higher power amplifier. That normally leads to a deterioration in sound quality but it sound quality isn't the issue, then it can work. You would do better to use the unit as intended.

Actually, you're connecting the output of the Topping's (low) power amplifier to the input of the Denon's preamp, and then to the Denon's (larger) power amplifier..

Like FMW said, it's not the best scenario.

There is a trick you can try to use it in an optimum way. That will only work, if it works at all, when you use the USB input with your PC (laptop/desktop) and the analog inputs may become your preamp output.

That is the way my Xduoo works and it is a very nice surprise to me as it sounds fantastic with my power amp. If that does not work, then the next best option is to use the headphone jack. You obviously will then need a mini jack to RCA cable. Is your Denon an integrated or power amp?

Hi and thanks for the replies. The Denon is an integrated amp. I'm was only planning on using the DAC side of the Topping which I know is not ideal as it doesn't have a signal out option. I will probably just bite the bullet and fork out for a suitable DAC with line out rca's but thanks for the tip. I will try it as I am using USB input from my laptop.
