Top 5 favorite films

So I figured it was time for all of us to list our top movies in the most common categories. This way, we can see who’s opinions align with our own, where they differ, and get some ideas of movies to add to our rental lists. These are all movies I have seen, and it’s important to remember one primary thing - these are just opinions, and by no means an “absolute” list by any means. I’ve seen a lot of movies, but not so many as to make anything of a definitive list, and even then, it would still be just my opinion.
As you add your favorites (the whole idea here) it will reflect each poster’s opinion. If you’re going to weigh in on other peoples lists, pick on the movie, not the person choosing it.
I kept it to the top 5, except for Sci-Fi which is my personal favorite. The first four in the list are in no particular order, but my personal #1 is listed last for each category.

Wow..this is a long, thought out list. I suggest adding a category for fantasy that isn't sci-fi. My nominees in that category are:

Batman Begins
Fellowship of the Rings
The Dark Knight
The Two Towers
#1 Return of the King

I'll have to think about my faves in other categories.

I'm sorry but you really must add Goodfellas to that list!
Besides a few wtf. for me (each his own) I'm amazed at the list. Very well done. I think it would take me all day if not more to do a list like yours.
GOOD JOB SIR...

As I was drifting off last night I had one of those “Doh” moments where I realized I had forgotten the Fantasy Films:

Golden Compass
Harry Potter - all
#1 Lord Of The Ring Trilogy

There are obviously more than 5 films here, but the Harry Potter films as well as LOTR are all continuations of the same characters.

And that’s the whole point. I could have just gleaned the info from other peoples lists, like a film critic or AFI, but I’m more interested in the opinions of the members on this site. If someone disagrees with the choices I made - let’s hear it (keep it about the movies & not the person)

I combined my list into the true top 5

Please note my favorite movies aren't necessarily would I would rank them.

1. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon(two hot chicks fighting with every weapon conceivable, great story line, beautiful scenery, beautiful choregraphy, beautiful music.)

2. Lawrence of Arabia(best movie ever made IMO. Great story line, captured the horror of war and the beauty in the same token)

3. Patton(best performance by an actor I've ever seen. He was Patton)

4. The Last Castle(Great action movie. Ridiculous plot, but all the goodness I like to see).

5. Transformers(First movie my Fiancee took me to.)

5. Days of Thunder(I watched it 10,000 times as a kid and actually wore out the tape.) I could never surpass it in times watched so it must remain ont he list. LOL.

5. Seven Samurai-The original Magnificent seven

That's my 7 top 5 favorite films. Please note that my favoire series is Stargate SG-1

If you've never seen a Bridge Too Far. It's a great film with an All-Star cast.

Sorry Craig, but how the hell can you have a list of greatest Westerns without ONE John Wayne movie?!?!?

To your list I will add:

Western
Big Jake
Rooster Cogburn
#1 Silverado

Now I'll do some combos:

Martial arts/Sci-fi
The One

Cops and robbers/Comedy
Running Scared (I waited for a sequel to this movie for YEARS )

I don't expect everyone to list as much as I did, just want to get a feel for what people like.

Because I've never seen one, pilgrim

To the Sci-Fi cluster I must add -

Blade Runner, the Final Cut, the best version of the launching pad of Cyberpunk movies and

The Abyss - Director's cut, the long (er) version, a better retelling of the Day the Earth Stood Still than the recent version

Total = 75 titles.

So Craig, if you take 5 titles for the 15 categories (including "Fantasy" & "Titles that should never had been relesed"), that will totaled 75 titles.

OK, I'll take my time to make a serious list (got to think about it with some true effort), and when I'm ready, I will be back with my list of 75 movies.

LOTR

Note: One title that I already know who would made my list is "The Return of the King" from: The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

* Did you forget the "Animation" category? That is a big oversight.
Such a nice effort with some major omission!

I kind of combined animation & family together, but if you want to post a stand alone category - go for it!

Categories. New Revision. The 125 entries.

OK, let's see how many true categories there is, without going into "SUBcategories" (that one is for you Craig).

1. Action
2. Adventure
3. Animation
4. Classics
5. Comedy
6. Comic books Adaptation
7. Cops & Bad Guys
8. Dramas
9. Documentary
10. Family
11. Fantasy
12. Foreign
13. Horror
14. Martial Arts
16. Music & Musicals
17. Romantic Comedy
18. Science Fiction
19. Suspense
20. Thriller
21. War
22. Western

* Best directors (5)
* Best ever movies (5)
* Worst ever movies (5)

What do you guys think? In my vast library of movies (about 5,000 titles), I pretty much organize them in these categories.
So, that will be 22 categories at 5 titles (only one title count as one movie, a trilogy count as three movies; Kill Bill vol.1 count as one title and vol.2 as a second title). Total = 110 titles.

* Add the three additional sections (5 more names + 10 titles), for another 15; and you get a grand total of 125 entries (or selections).

Craig did an excellent job, I just thought to perfection the categories a bit more precisely for a better common accord.

Ok, let's do that democratically; if I get 5 votes in favor (which I think at this point is very fair), we'll pass it as the new base for our selections.
Now, in order to get one "Yea", a poster simply say: "Yea" I'm in favor of the 125 entries, or Yeah, Yes, Ya, Yep, Yo, or anything clear enough that we know for sure (letter Y anyway).

"Nay" doesn't count (letter N).

LOTR

* Note: And you don't have to post all your entries at once, you can post them in several posts (but try to be reasonable and not go over say 5 at the very max.).
** But first this suggestion of mine with these categories enumerated in this very post has to get 5 votes to be approved. So, for this you can cast your vote right away, without giving any selection yet, or you can if you want to, it's entirely up to you.
*** Personally, I am working on my list very deligently, and I will post all my selections in only one post at once when I'm ready. And I can cast my own vote right now, which is Yea for the 125 entries, so four more to go now. :)
