Too much noise - Limited options

I am looking for suggestions around decreasing the sound from our TV from going through the wall to the bedroom.

The only location we can place or entertainment unit is against the same wall as the master bedroom. The wall doesn't have insulation in it so the sound from the DLP easily passes through it to the bedroom. As most of you can guess I would like to hear what is on the TV and my wife would like to not hear it too.

I have thought about building or buying sound absorption panels to place between the entertainment unit and the wall but I'd hate to spend this kind of money and it not work.

Additionally, I have tried using headphones but they are uncomfortable over time, not to mention if I wish to stretch out on the couch...

Suggestions?

Treating the inside of the room won't help much. I'd recommend 2 things.

1. Cut some small holes up high in the wall, go to Home Depot/Lowes and rent an insulation blower and fill up the walls with insulation - then patch the holes up high. This will help with mid/high frequencies passing and damp a little bass.

2. Add another layer of drywall on the TV room side of the wall to add additional mass and reduce sound transmission including lower frequencies.

Don't overlook the possibility that the sound is also travelling through the ceiling and AC ducts.

Purchase your wife these.

If they don't work, and she still complains.

I would recommend using Mass Loaded Vinyl if it is an option. I saw someone suggested adding an additional layer of sheet rock. If you decide to take that route, the mlv is definitely worth the additional cost. It will add mass to the wall, which is necessary to block the sound. You can add that and sheet rock over the top of it.
