to amp or not to amp

I am trying to make some decisions before Christmas so my wife will know what to buy me. I am trying to decide whether to use a couple of amps I have or not. Also let me add I know very little about all of this but I'm willing to learn. I bought my first real audio product last year a pair of atm-50's and wow :)

Here is what I have currently to work with Yamaha RX V861

2 Klipsch f30

and 2 of these amps NAD 218THX

What I would like to do is purchase the matching center Klipsch speaker and a good sub for the money. I have the receiver and f30's already in use paired up with a networked ps3 to my computer and have been using it but itching to finish. all advice appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What exactly are you asking? Whether or not you can and should use the amps? If you have them, I don't see why not. Doesn't cost you anything (besides interconnects) to try it out and see if you like it.

You don't need an external amp for a Klipsch speaker. If you have it why not use it, but I'd not buy one. They require around 1/4th the power of a normal speaker.

I had read a couple of times that the klipsch were easy to drive, and I know very little about setting up sound equipment. Thanks I will probably hang on to the amps and give them a try after I have had time to get used to the speakers without.

You could run a number of home-built subs off those amps. :) That would give you considerably more boom for your buck than storebought. Have a look at the diy forum at avsforums, kits and plans offered by Madisound, Parts Express, Zalytron, and Creative Sound Solutions. If you don't mind a sub that you'll never want to move, see the TC12(?) horn plans at Creative Sound Solutions. There is probably no more bass for the buck than that. And if circumstances change, you could always put the woofer into a more civilized box and still enjoy decent bass.

Not everyone is cut out for building projects. I certainly love them, but I would recommend a Pro amp for driving subs. The amps he's talking about probably aren't designed for LFE performance.
