Tivoli Internet Radio

My wife wants a radio for the kitchen.
She has already warned me it has to be simple to operate and attractive.

So I was looking at the Blose Radio.
Not unattractive, would sound ok and it can suspended using a Bose Bracket underneath the cupboards. Problem is I think analogue radio is dated.

So I was looking at this over priced puppy.

How well does Internet Radio perform in the real world?
I have a fast internet connection but would I still experience skips and pauses?

Should I stick with analogue radio?

Any suggestions of other quality products would be appreciated.

Thanks

I'm glad you asked this question, as I am curious about Tivoli also. I have listened to their model one, and while it is very small and only 1 speaker (not in stereo) it still sounds really good.

Since this unit is wireless, I also wonder if it is 802.11n, or b/g. Since my home network is wireless N, I try not to buy any wireless devices that are not N to keep my network at it's fastsest.

I have only used internet radio on the pc so I can’t say how well all-in-one systems work. Have you looked at the Squeezebox Boom? It gets really good reviews on Amazon and for the price of the Tivoli you could get two:) I think the Tivoli would probably sound better but if you are mainly going to use it to stream internet radio you probably want be able to tell the difference due to compression. In fact the Tivoli may bring out the faults of the compress audio. Here is a link to the Squeezebox: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001DJ64D4

I think that you should do what she wants and get her something simple. She will probably never want to listen to internet radio and would be happy with listening to whatever she listens to in her car.

You are being thoughtful trying to give her more than she asked for but she will never see it that way and think you are going overboard.

I do the same thing for my wife and she accepts. She always tells me that she would just be happy with a 19" tv.

What in the hell type of response was that. Damn you for all eternity!
If I wanted common sense and practicality I would ask my wife's friends what they thought. Not post on Audioholics.
I came here for justification for an over priced product, not a logical reasonable "you shouldn't buy" response. This gift to my wife in reality is more for me. Disguised to make it look like it was for my wife.

Now what am I going to do?

Oh well!

Maybe my wife needs a ps3 for "photo sharing/viewing" on the TV :)

ps
your not getting a "thanks" for your response ;-)

Interns advising interns? Sounds like a recipe for disaster (not to mention practicality and mature spending habits) blech!

So yes, you should immediately spend some money just to clear the stench from the air.

Another item to check out...the Sonos ZonePlayer S5, it looks way cool. Go check it out...

Obviously is is not aimed at the same audience, nor does it have the same functionality. But it is cool, especially if you have an iPhone/iPod touch.

Yeah I already checked the Sonos out.

You need the zone bridge and the controller (iphone/itouch) but its a little large for the kitchen and maybe complicated for my wife. It looks like a winner of a product though. Would be perfect for mobile audio around the house and especially the outdoors as long as its protected from the weather.

Yeah, I think the low end sound bridge is $99, so a total of $499 to get it up and running. It's really not bad price for what you get. I love the idea of multiple wireless zones all controllable from my iPhone. Of course to take advantage of multiple simultaneous zones, it will require additional sonos gear and more money invested. And of course for me, the main downside is that it isn't going to be able to compete with a high end speaker+receiver combo for audiophile sound.

Still, a nice gadget. I may have to find a way to work this into my system at some point.

Find out if your router is a dual-antenna model. If it is, the radio won't affect the speed of your computer.
