timer recording problem

Alright, I'm bumping myself down to newbie status for this question.

I have a JVC HR-3600U SVHS player. I have never been able to get the thing to timer record a program. All I get is static. I've tried everything I can think of. It will record a program if I hit play/record simultaneously, but that's the only way. I don't have a cable box or anything complicated going on. Just the cable feed straight into the VCR via coax.

I swear this thing is 10 times more complicated than my DVD player. Of course I had a DVD player before I had a VCR. How many of you can say that?!!

Thanks

Just a thought...

When you set the timer, does it offer a choice of what to record, such as the internal tuner or perhaps an external input? Kinda sounds like you're recordng from a non-existant external input.

I ran into same issue. Had to specify in the timer setup to use a different input, b/c it defaults to using the coax connection. In my case, my cable box runs RCA into L2 on the VCR. Maybe for some reason your VCR isn't set to use coax.

Thanks guys.

I'll check it out when I get home from work and post an update tonight.

set to record from a cable box

I actually spent more than 2 minutes trying to locate the problem and found out it was set to timer record from a cable box. I had a cable box hooked into it about 5 years ago. I must have gone a long time without trying to tape something after that (I probably only try to tape something 2 or 3 times a year) and forgot I had it set that way.

Anyway, thanks markw and breaks911 for putting me on the right track.
