Time-Warner 'Tivo'

Greetings

I am about to go to the Time-Warner store to upgrade my 5 year old DVR box.
What is the procedure (if possible) for saving all my Tivo'd items to a PC hard drive? It is not a real Tivo box but something T-W cobbled together.
I'm pretty sure it has an embedded Linux OS but no clue as to format.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm pretty sure all cable DVRs use proprietary and encrypted file formats to prevent what you are trying to do...

All DVRs encrypt their recordings to prevent piracy, so you can't simply copy them to your PC or Mac
