Time to upgrade yamaha 663?

So I was thinking for x-mas of getting the new Wii U for my daughter (ie ME). Which means I'm short a HDMI input on the receiver. Figure I have two options.
1. If I use the analog outs on my Oppo that would free one up. Am I losing anything using the analog outs instead of HDMI?

2. Buy a new receiver. I was thinking of this one unless someone has another suggestion.

Nothing against Yamaha, it's been great, but the deals on that site seem hard to pass up and people here seem to have good things to say about them. I thought about the 717 because it would be nice not to have to use my separate phono pre-amp, but hard to justify 190$ for that.

Budget is well...cheaper the better:D I mean I could drop a lot more money, but if I'm not going use the features doesn't really seem practical. The main reasons for the 616 is it's 4k and 3d ready (just in case) and has plenty of connections.

Thanks for reading and happy Halloween!

Doesn't the Wii U have a component output? If so, just use that instead of HDMI and keep the 663.

1: If you're using the oppo for music only then most likely not as the output sections of their players are very well regarded. You would lose some video quality though switching to component from HDMI. IIRC you'd also lose the ability to output 1080.

2: You seem to know what you want for the receiver, nothing wrong with what you chose, I'd just keep an eye out for deals and spring if something strikes your fancy.

Also, what avnetguy said.

Well you should only lose 1080p and not 1080i which I guessing wouldn't be a big deal on the Wii U. ;)

I still use component from my cable box and I find it more than acceptable for HD tv. I do run HDMI from my 360 (FPS gaming) and PS3 (Bluray movies) though.

For the Oppo my thought was to do the video out via hdmi directly to TV. Then do the analog audio to receiver.
I THINK this is possible, but will have to test tonight.

No need to upgrade if all you need are additional HDMI inputs. You can get an auto sensing HDMI switch for under $20 that works great. I use one, and my parents do as well, they work great. I also have a Yamaha RX-V663 so I can confirm that it works with that reciever.

High Speed HDMI + HDCP 3 Ports Mini Switch with External IR Receiver and Remote, intelligent Auto Switch, No AC power needed

They also have the same thing with three 6 ft. HDMI cables for $19.99

High Speed HDMI + HDCP 3 Ports Mini Switch with External IR Receiver and Remote, intelligent Auto Switch, No AC power needed (195-116) with 3 pcs of 6 Feet High Speed HDMI Male to Male Digital A/V Cable, 30 AWG Cable (193-350)
