THX Test Setup Question

I just finished setting up my new receiver and speakers (Yamaha 1500/Paradigms all around). I ran the YPAO and things sound pretty good. I have the front speakers and center speaker set to "small", LFE set to "sub" and the sub crossover set to 80Hz.

I ran a THX test that was on a DVD in the audio setup menu. The screen comes up and tells me that I should hear a test tone out of the speaker that is highlighted on the screen. Everything is good, except for two things. One, I don't hear any test tone from the sub. Should I? Two, I only have 2 rear surround speakers (setup for 5.1). However, the THX test tests both rear surround speakers AND rear surround back speakers, as if I had 7 speakers. The tones that are suppose to come out of the SBL and SBR speakers, that I DON'T have, come from the center speaker. Is that normal or do I have something screwed up in my receiver setup that my untrained ear can't hear?

Hi... the test tone out of the sub is weak but you should hear something. Keep going with the tests and you come accross the test for the sub crossover. You should hear the system go throught frequencies (Hi to Low) and not see a drop in volumn from start to finish. Adjust the sub volumn accordingly until you're happy with this test.

If you have a 5.1 you'll see the THX test check each rear indipendently and togeather as a pair for the back. Yes what your hearing is normal.

If you have 6.1 or 7.1 it's the same for me. DTS actually makes better use of my back channel. THX doesn't see the rears as seperate channels.

Anyone... feel free to jump in if you have different results or have comments.

BTW... what Paradigm's do you have. I just got the cinema 110's with my previously purchased PS1000 powered sub. I really like the outcome.

Since your sub worked when you ran YPAO I wouldn't woory about the THX test.
I read somewhere each one of those test is set for that dvd.

Play any good dvd for good bass and see how the sub works.
Any Lord of the Rings EE dvd
Superbit dvds
Master and Commander
Gladitor

You get the idea.
