Need some advice. I have a THX Select rated receiver and wanted some advice if I should choose from THX select rated speakers. If so any recomendations? If not any recomendations? My budget is not unlimited but at the same time I am willing to spend to get something that will ensure I have a THX certified sounding system. Love some adive on which and where to go.

I hope I'm not peeing on your parade, but THX is mostly marketing. The so called stringent requirements for certification are really not very stringent and pretty near all quality speakers could pass if they'd simply pony up the bucks to Lucas for the ability to display the logo.

Originally, all THX did was standardize the crossover settings between LFE and main speakers, and determine some surround charateristics. They have since branched out and will stick thier name on just about anything from screens to cables.

I searched the THX site for speakers that were THX certified, and the only brand that came up was Monster. If you're aware of Monster cables and the way they're marketed and positioned, then you'll understand why they would embrace THX.

So while there's nothing inherently wrong with THX, there's really no reason to look for certification either. You'll have a lot more choices if you let go of the labels.

Here are some manufacturers of THX certified speakers:

Atlantic Technology
B&W
Canton
Harman/Kardon
Jamo
JBL
KEF
Klipsch
M&K
Magnat
McIntosh Laboratory
Onkyo
Snell Multimedia
Sonance
Technics
Teufel

THX certified equipment for home use doesn't really make sense to me since your listening environment isn't THX certified. When a theater is THX certified there is criteria for room acoustics, background noise (HVAC, etc.), and isolation from external noise sources (i.e.. neighbor’s dog). So in the end I think you'll find THX certified equipment isn't going to be a giant step over non THX certified equipment with equivalent performance.

Klipsch’s Cinema 10 system

Good advice and I think I will expand my choices. After researching on the internet for a while. I have decided I don't want floor speakers. I just like the look and unassuming look of the speakers in my living room. I currently have Klipsch Quinett II satellites. I want to upgrade. I would like to get the best satellites that are out. Anyone have the Klipch's Cinema 6, 8's or new 10's. know of any other brands that have great satellites?

Interesting article. My purpose in the original post was to help narrow my choices for good speakers. After reading the posts I have determined I don't need to just look in the THX select area. I am not interested in going to the extreme the article you linked in your post. Not to say that others may want that in thier systems. I want a better than average setup. Still looking for some thoughts on some satellite speakers like I mentioned in the previous post.

THX speakers

So much for sarcasm. The original THX speakers were developed by M&K (Miller & Kreisel) for professional studios. They were also among the first to develop the powered subwoofer. Although that is still their primary marketplace, M&K does make speakers for home theaters. Their tripole surrounds are extremely flexible in how they can be adjusted and set up. The quality is outstanding. Eight speakers will cost about $7-8000. Since M&K doesn't advertise, most of the usual mags (rags) don't review them.

Hello
If you would like some recommendations for speakers I urge you to post the following
#1 Size and Shape of the room including ceiling height
#2 Acoustical properties of the room . Floor type, how much glass type of furniture the more detail the better
#3 Listening habits are you a 50% HT 50% music guy or ?
#4 Placement options where do you need to place your speakers can you have floor standers in front and a large center with wall mounted surrounds on the side and EX speakers on the back wall for a 7.1 system or
does your listening room require a different placement type
#5 can you corner load a sub or place it 1/3 in from the side wall on the front wall or ?
#6 how far back is your seated listening position
#7 What is your architectural requirements and design criteria for your HT?

With these questions answered we may be able to steer you toward some speakers to audition

You can't go wrong with M&K. I recently bought the 750 THX select system minus the sub. I opted for the Definitive Super Cube 1 since my dealer didn't have the 1250 sub in stock and would've had to been ordered.

The 750 system is VERY popular. It offers a very wide listening stage and is a little brighter than the s-150’s; however, many people prefer the brighter sound of the 750 system over the s-150. I would describe the sound as "Live". Even if the prices were equal, I would choose the 750's over s-150’s. The s-150's sound awesome when everything is ideal. They're true monitors. The mix, the equipment, and the listening environment all have to be perfect.

As a testament to their sound reproduction, I was watching Monsters Inc. while the cable guy was installing VOIP in my house and he couldn't stop watching the movie. He said he had seen it before and disliked like but for some reason, it was catching his interest. I asked him if he saw it in the theater and said no. He saw it at home with is little brother. He was about 20-22 years of age. It was the sound; he was installing VOIP in another room. I caught him standing in the hall watching the movie like 10 times.

The speakers will set you back for about 2600 which are not bad when you think about it. A good computer will set you back 4-5 grand and be outdated in 6 months. They carry a 10 year warrantee so you have piece of mind. I was even told they will honor their warrantee after that period. That's how much they stand behind their product.

Perhaps I can save you some time and recommend to you what I bought. I find it an excellent compromise between quality and price.

M&K 750 THX Select system minus sub
Definitive Super Cube 1
Denon 3805
Denon DVD 2200

The 750’s only come in a vinyl wrapping, if you want wood then you have to move up to the 850 system. They come with an upgraded tweeter than sounds smoother. The tweeter in the 750 system is the same as in the S-150.

I own a set of Mordaunt-Short 500 THX speakers and am very happy with them :) That said - you probably want to listen to whatever you decide on yourself before shelling out the amounts required.
