Is there such a thing as a THX receiver only? I don't plan on switching any video thru an A/V receiver. I only need a receiver to manage my sound.

I would rather spend max on the THX sound. I don't need it for video.

THX is just a certification for audio/video equipment that says they meet specific standards. Alot of companies don't even bother paying to get their equipment tested and use that branding even though their products meet or exceep the specs required because it just adds to the final cost for the consumer.

I may be completely wrong here, but I don't know of an audio only receiver setup, though it may exist. If you were able to give some more details of the specs your wanting I'm sure with all of the people on the forum we can find something that can produce the sound you want.

My thought was, since I don't want an A/V receiver for Video switching, I could put more money into a _better_ receiver that was to use exclusively for a 5.1 or 7.1 setup.

I used THX as an example, but basically just want to put all the money into the sound, and not pay extra for the video side I don't intend to use.

Thanks,

What speakers are you going to be using and what is your budget on the receiver? I think your best bet for what your wanting is to find a "last years model" type of receiver. Something where you aren't paying for hdmi or dvi switching.
