Got Paradigm speakers and was looking at getting an Onkyo TX-SR603 receiver. However, my room is about 14 x 22 x 8' high. One side is about 70% glass windows with wood blinds. The back wall has a glass french door. I am wondering if I should need THX to get the Cinema Re-EQ effect to minimize the room issues. Any thoughts?? Thanks for the help.

I have it also and I never use it. RE-EQ is a preset parameter, it does not perform an actual EQ function relative to your specific room. What it sounds like you are looking for is simply a receiver that has autocalibration with an EQ function.

As jgarcia stated, re-EQ is not a room equalization function of THX. If I remember, it re-balances the higher frequency levels on a DVD as theater soundtracks are boosting the higher bands at a uniform slope to account for the dead acoustics in a theater.

What speakers are you running? There are some receivers with built in parametric/graphic eq's that you can tweak manually. Auto set up is not a perfect science, and sometimes the ear does a better job.

Ubid.com has the Onkyo 803B for $639 with a 1yr warranty through the mfg.
In that size room (depending on speaker efficiency and listening taste), it may be worth the extra investment.

Thanks for all the replies. I actually had already selected the Onkyo TX-SR803 as my choice ($712.00 "New" @ 6th Ave - Great price for Auth Retailer) but am now confused with member "SHPEREZ" statement that he has a quote for a Yamaha RX-V2600 from an auth retailer for $885 (hope he will PM me w/name). Seems like a lot more receiver with great upscaling and RS-232 interface which, I assume, could be used for firmware upgrades in future. My 5.1 speakers are Paradigm Monitor 90P (includes powered subwoofer), and my old Def Tech C-1 (prob will upgrade to CC-370 or 470) and Def Tech BP-2's (hope I don't have to upgrade to soon. Will eventually add 2 more presence or back speakers. The Onkyo offers a lot for the money but the Yammy seems to blow it away. Ideas always welcome. Thanks again.

Firmware updates are generally far and few between, and quite often they involve other changes so I definitley would not worry about the receiver being able to have firmware updates installed via RS232. In fact, that port is generally for use with whole home automation system controls.

The 470 doesn't match the 90Ps, so your logical choice for a center would be the 370, unless you also plan to upgrade to Studios for mains as well.

Presence speakers are a waste of speakers IMO.

Paradigm told me that both would work and that the CC470 would actually timbre match very well with the Monitor 90P and would give better vocal clarity. Price diff is alot and I would likely be happy with either. Bit the bullet and went for the Yamaha RX-2600 receiver (RS-232 for installer use or "techie"). Not firmware upgradable. Otherwise seems fantastic.
