Bass is re-enforced by room boundaries and indeed is known to “chase” boundaries. If you play pink noise from your sub and move from dead-center in the room towards any boundary, you can hear the bass level increase. Thus bass levels will be “hotter” for seating near the wall vs. seating more towards the center of the room. Of course, bass EQ will change also near the room center compared to near boundaries. I don’t know now useful BGC is, as modern receivers with Audyssey et. al. can not only compensate for the added bass gain, but can give appropriate equalization as well.
