Hmmm...not really being a football fan I'm sitting out the Super Bowl hoopla. But I do have a story to share about my most memorable Super Bowl.
I was doing an internship (with the Indiana Repertory Theater) in Indianapolis and living in a rooming house with some IUPUI* students and young professionals in town on short-term assignments. I think it was 1982 -- anyway, the year the game was played in Detroit. We shared a 19" or so TV in the living room. So much for home theater! Not even sure it was a color TV.
Indy, along with Detroit and much of the Midwest, was experiencing an epic cold spell with highs in the single digits, and the house was quite drafty. So it was as much about keeping warm as watching the game and enjoying the camaraderie!
On game day I cooked a big batch of pasta and my homemade sauce, which we all enjoyed heartily. But what made it most memorable was that one of the younger student residents made a batch of "herbally enhanced" chocolate chip cookies. The secret, see, was to marinate the, um, herbs in melted butter for several hours, thus extracting all the "essence" before disposing of the herbs and simply using the butter in the dough. Eliminated that high-fiber texture but still gave full enhancement. They were very tasty. We all had lots.
Not that I now, in the calm light of maturity or in my capacity as a moderator, condone or advise that sort of thing, mind you!
Anyway, everything got kinda hazy after halftime, though I do rembember it being quite a lot of fun...don't remember being cold, that's for sure. So maybe "memorable" doesn't strictly apply here... Who played that year, anyway?
