I am sure this is not knew, but have no idea where to look and spot checked the newbee threads. I am looking for a solution for stereo equipment that will play at a constant volume across on varying inputs...i.e., radio vs cd vs cd ran through a NAD box and the music is on my computer...etc. I have a 10 year old Marantz SR7500 and some of the retail box stores say that the new current recievers (an I assume pre-amps and amps) will do this automatically. Would just like to get the thread to read up on this.
Thanks

this has ben an issue in this hobby since day one, and still is.

All components output at their own levels. That's something we can do nothing about.

In the past, I recall some tuners and tape decks would have output level controls on them but those days are long gone. your computer should allow this, and maybe external DACs but, on the whole, I can't think of any others

So, unless you can find individual components that allow you to set their output levels (I can't think of any) you're going to have to find a receiver/amp that allows you to set each input level individually.

I can't think of any that do, but there's a lot of stuff out there today with which I'm not familiar. What retail box stores said modern units will do this, and units did they recommend?

good luck in your quest.

Both my Denon and Onkyo avrs can adjust level per input. Onkyo even has a branded name for it, Intellivolume. I'm pretty sure I've seen other solutions as well.

ps It's a manual adjustment on my units, not automatic....but I think there is such a feature on some units.
