Thoughts on Integra receivers...

I'm in the market for a new receiver and speakers for my newly remodeled basement. I visited my local high end audiophile store today and was introduced to the Integra line of receivers. I hadn't ever heard of them before but it's my understanding that they are the higher end brother of the Onkyo receivers. I was originally thinking about buying a Yamaha or Onkyo receiver. I'll most likely be buying a model that has at least 3 HDMI inputs (budget $600-$800).

Can anyone give me some thoughts on how well the Integra's perform vs. the Yamaha's and Onkyo receivers?

Integra/Onyko have very little if any differences at their relative price points (get the Onkyo 805;)). I have zero experience with Yamaha but many here like em.

Integra is an Onkyo with superior parts and QC. At your budget Onkyo may be the better choice however if your budget permits then Integra would be a great choice.

Back in the eighties Integra was the name of Onky's high-end line not a separate company. My Integra was run for over 15 years with zero problems.

He's right! You may wanna consider the onkyo 805 as the integras are around a grand to start with! Lower end Onkyos are not very good at driving 4 ohm speakers unless you go with the 875 or 905.

 The TX-SR805 is fine with 4 ohm loads as well (same amplifier as the TX-SR875).;)

Concerning better parts, they probably aren't much different. They use the same designs and technologies with the same types of DACs. The Integra series offers network capability on lower models. The TX-SR605 equivelent (the Integra DTR-5.8) offers preouts as well.

The Integra models offer 'better' parts than Onkyo - the kinds of things that don't make one bit of difference except in very rare circumstances. As a long time Onkyo owner, I don' think you can go wrong with any of the Onkyo offerings and you'll save a few bucks over the Integra.
