Thoughts on "improving" this speaker

This from the an RCA p.o.s. I don't feel like getting new speakers for my garage at this time. I just moved my old Sony receiver to replace the headunit of the boom box.

Any ideas on how to improve this thing (two of them, identical)? I'm thinking of just adding some dampening to the back for starters. I really have no idea what that'll do.

I love the direct wire of the tweeter and the woofer!

The woofer has this info stamped on it:
Samco
8 ohm
3 watt
KF-40R04C-1

I checked the Samco site. Nothing listed.

Add some dampening. Use whatever - but it's not worth buying dampening to put in that speaker - the dampening may exceed the value of the speaker - but if you have some stuff that might work for dampening that you were going to throw away....

The tweeter must be a piezzo type and the mid woofer is full range. Just add a bit of fiber glass insulation.

Acousta-Stuff would definately be worth more than the speaker!

I get spray on bed-liner from a local auto parts store for about $3 a can. Maybe spray some of that inside the cabinet, then throw a wad of R19 in there. Why even mess with it though? I'd think the drivers themselves are so coloured that reducing cabinet colouration wouldn't reap any benefits.

Just figured I'd spend my first attempt at messing with a speaker on a piece of junk. Can't really make it any worse.
It is a beauty, though.
RCA RP-7954 (part number on back of speaker case).
Pretty special!

Well, I can appreciate that. But the problem is I doubt it has enough resolution to convey whether your changes make any improvement or not.

Spray bedliner and fiberglass would be the best cheap start. Maybe some modeling clay on the woofer frame to knock down it's resonances. Maybe some roofing felt lining the box too, and lining the back of the baffle, layers of it glued down with caulking.

All cheap, so hey, go for it! Certainly nothing to lose.
