Ok well my buddy picked up a pair of Klipsch RF-82's for a song. Well he has no AV equipment so we brought them back to my house to give em a listen. I want them. After watching all kinds of stuff and listening to all kinds of music and going back and forth. We keep comming back to the Klipsch as sounding more detailed and clear. Its not that mine sound bad at all, just not as pleasing to the ear when compared. I know that now that I have heard his Im gonna want them till I get them. Im debating selling off my gear and re-doing it all. I can probably sell my speakers for enough to get the same towers and the matching center. Id also like a new reciever, but Im not sure thats worth upgrading. AGGGGHHH!!!!!
*end rant

Ill do $1000 for my LE 170's and my LE 150 CM, you pay shipping. I still have the original boxes, and they were VERY well taken care of.

Alright, maybe we can lower the price to possibly, not two times the cost of my car!

I'll have to pass up on it lol.

Slow down a bit,im one of the few guys around here who actually likes the klipsch sound but i have spent decades with their speakers owning a ton of models so im used to their sound, klipsch makes speakers that have a huge dynamic presentation & what you might be mistaking for a better cleaner sound might be the extended dynamics that they offer.

Im also of the opinion that first impressions are accurate when it comes to speakers where if they sound like a turd when you first hear them then they are a turd & vise versa, what im trying to tell you is that you just heard a new speaker in your home,on top of the speaker having a new sound its a horn loaded speaker, this sound is drastically different from what your running now & you may be getting overly excited about the new sound.

Horn loaded speakers are tricky because they have such an in your face sound & huge presentation but to many people they can become extremely fatiguing to listen to for extended periods of time.

Ask your buddy to let you spend a few days with them & stop switching back & forth, you've allready spent a ton of time with your cantons, you know their sound well, spend your time with the klipsch's putting them through the motions & make sure to have as many long listening sessions as you can with familiar material before you return them.

In the end you just might prefer the klipsch but you also might be experiencing new gear fever, ive had it:D

Excelent points. Im gonna have them for a while, Id say at least a week. The only problem is I dont have the matching center. Im gonna TRY and adjust my Canton to the Klipsch's tomorrow, but I duno that Ill be able to. I think there are a lot of things that are contributing to me wanting these speakers. Most of it is looks, They look impressive. Also I know what I paid for my speakers, and I know what he paid for his. If you went off looks alone, his look like they should have cost what mine did, and visa versa. Ive always like Klipsch speakers, in fact they were the ONLY speakers I considerd after first hearing my Cantons. When I went back to buy my cantons, I only listend to Klipsch's that were not as expensive. One other thing to point out which may have affected my decision when I bought, when going back and forth there is some adjustmet to bass and trebble to make each sound there best. Obviously I didnt get that at the store when I compared.

If I have the reciever set for the Cantons then switch to the Klipsch, there way to bright. If I have it set for the Klipsch and go to the Cantons, they sound muddy and bland. After Figuring out (quickly Ill admit) what settings work best for both, we both liked the Klipsh better overall. Another thing that botherd me was how easily the Klipsch are powerd. I found myself turning it down a lot, where when I had the Cantons hooked up I was truning it up.

I duno there is a lot of differences between them, thats for sure. Maybe Ill get the matching center to see what it all sounds like and then return it.

I agree 100% with highfihoney. IMO, the sensitivity is another factor that can sway you because it seems like the louder speaker is better (perception). I'm not saying that is what is happening here, but you should spend some time with them and really decide.

The Klipsch have a much higher sensitivity than the Cantons. That is why you are having to turn them down and the Cantons up. The Klipsch give you more per watt.

It is impossible to a/b Cantons and Klipsch on the same amp/receiver. You need to run two separate amps/receivers and level match each to your listening level. Tweak the sound at that level to your preference, then a/b. What is happening is that you are getting much better dynamics with the Klipsch at a given watt compared to the Cantons which need more power to reach that level (as others have stated). A quick a/b with the same amp is going to reveal more punch and highs since you have a higher spl rating with the Klipsch. I'm sure if you compared the two with separate amps/receivers at the same dB, you wouldn't hear the difference you hear now - and might even prefer the Cantons.

I spent a large part of this afternoon auditioning speakers...mostly B&W's (6 different models, all of which were underwhelming at the prices). I listened also to Paradigms Studio Refs and Monitors, Klipsch, and M&K's.

Best bang for the buck and really surprising me................the Klipsch RS82's. My buddy had the same reaction. These in no way sounded like the ice-pick-in-the-ears harsh Klipsch I've come to know and detest over the years. In fact, they couldn't pay me to take away the more expensive Heresy's right next to the RS82's. The RS82 is THE surprise speaker in my last year of auditioning. Even though the tweets are still horn loaded, they're amazingly clear and not unnerving as are other horns, bass was extensive and excellent, mids were tight and clean. Vocals were accurate and amazing. Dynamics are first rate. I can't respond to the imaging, as they were not at all set up for decent stage evaluation...they were rearranging the store at the time. Overall this was an impressive looker and performer. The only negative I could find was a modest lack of complete precision in instrumentation...but only as compared to the >$5,000 B&W's.

I think you're on to something, Rowdy!! Dump those Cantons. :)
