Third Blu-ray Player

Hello Folks

I am adding third blu ray player to the mix (other two oppo's) and just for a change looking to get a Denon 1611 UD or Sony 780 as having SACD capability is important.

I am aware Denon costs $399 and Sony $250. If price difference is not an issue, which one will you be recommending and any specific reason.

Thanks

Raj

I love my Denons. I've had Sonys last a good while too, though.

I think if you are not using the analog outputs they will sound the same. So if you are going to use digital outputs just go for the features, look, price etc., but pick the one that is quieter especially if you listen to classical music. I can barely hear the fan of my Oppo 95 and the drive of my Dennon 3910 from where I sit. It does not bother me but such barely noticeble noise may bother some people.

Since you want SACD, I'd say the Sony. Panasonic would have been my choice on the cheap, but not sure if they do SACD anymore.

Interesting that you mentioned Panasonic. I haven't seen any of theirs with SACD capability.

Panasonic owns more patents for SACD than Sony does. They had already started to drop it off their DVD players when BD players came out.

*edit: Did a quick search and it does not look like any of their BD players had SACD.

Oh O.K. I didn't realize that. Thank you. It's just that Sony has been so "in my face" with the SACD feature.
