Hi All,

I have a pair of Klipsch RF-25 Floorstanding speakers and I want to get a more efficient Loud Speakers for music.

I aslo have a pair Klipsch RS-25 surround sound and would like to get a smaaler one for my living room.

Is there a site or where i can get pricing for this so I can sell it?

What speakers would you guys recommend for Music like Karaoke and occasionally use it for Home Theater. thanks

the RF-25 is already a ruthlessly efficient loudspeaker with 97 dB at 2.83v at 1 meter.

Are you looking for something smaller that can play as loud and nice as your current setup?

Both the Klipschorn & La Scalla's are more efficient - 105db.

What color are your RS-25's?

For the record, they have higher sensitivity not more efficiency. They are not the same thing.

Hi Robot,

what does it means that it is with 97db at 2.83v at 1 meter? Do I make these changes in my receiver setup to make it more efficient?

It seems that my highs are not loud enough. I might need a loudspeakers that can produce in the higher 20khz freq. any suggestion? I would want to sell this pair first then get another pair of mains.

97dB @ 2.83v @ 1 meter (1w @ 1 meter) is the SENSITIVITY rating of the speaker. In other words, how loud it will play when fed 1 watt of power when measured from a distance of 1 meter.

Check your tweeters for damage because that is the ONLY way you would not be getting enough highs with Klipsch speakers....

The "highs" on the source may have been limited in the studio also, to give it that "MP3 sound" that the kids are raving about these days.

Yes j_garcia is right here... likening sensitivity to efficiency is an oversimplification but for our purposes here I don't think it really matters too much. But it is important to note.

Also if you aren't hearing enough high frequencies out of your RF-25s something must be broken or not adjusted right...

read the loudspeaker article on wikipedia.

Don't pay too much attention to numbers like sensitivity and whatnot... they can only give you hints as to what the speaker might sound like.

Ok. So then what is the efficiency?
I always thought that sensitive/efficient speakers were primarily for use with tube amps, where the cost per watt is very high. Most solid state amps have enough power to drive even fairly low sensitivity speakers to ear-bleeding volume.

How long have you been listening to those speakers and at what volume levels?

Are you sure you can still hear the missing higher frequencies?

After reading the Wikipedia article and a few other tidbits I still don't understand exactly how efficiency and sensitiviy are different. Maybe one of the mods knows how to explain it better?

But this little bit of information is interesting (taken from Wikipedia):

"It is not possible to combine a very high efficiency, low frequency extension in a compact arrangement. One can only choose two of the three parameters when designing a system. So if one desires very extended low frequencies and a small box size, one must have low efficiency. This qualitative concept is sometimes called Hoffman's Iron Law."

I like that bit of info from Wikipedia.:D

As for the values of the speakers-

The RF-25's suggested retail was $800 in 2003
The Used sale price is $490
The Wholesale Mint is $290
The Wholesale Average is $175

The RS-25's suggested retail was $400 in 2003
The Used sale price is $270
The Wholesale Mint is $160
The Wholesale Average is $92

That is Orion Blue book values.

The two terms are related, but they are not the same thing:
"Sensitivity," which is expressed in dB, should not be confused with "efficiency" that is expressed as a percentage of power out relative to power in. Efficiency data for loudspeakers suffers from many problems such as failure to consider variations in frequency response.

Speaker efficiency is the ability of the speaker to do work or use power. The more efficient the speaker; the less power is required for the speaker to produce sound.

Typical speaker efficiency (for physicists) is about 5%. Meaning that for 100% power input, you get about 5% acoustical work back.
A speaker with high sensitivity means it is efficient, but the two terms are not interchangeable because they don't mean exactly the same thing is what I was getting at. You will never see a speaker rated in terms of efficiency.

I have RF 25's and and use them for all types of music.keep the speakers as they are fantastic but as was suggested get the horn loaded teeters checked out as it seems to me they may be dammaged.REPLACEMENT TWEETERS ARE NOT EXPENSIVE. KIND REGARDS ALAN.
