First post on this forum, so Hi to all. I currently have a Velodyne 12" sub that was purchase about 5-7 years ago. It's running fine, but I will not be able to buy a matching unit again. Do you guys and gals think I should sell this one and then buy two matching subs? Or can you integrate different subs from different manufacturers successfully? Can ported and un-ported subs integrate together? I've got a UMIK1 on the way to measure the room as I know I've got an uneven bass response.

A friend of mine runs 4 subs and they are different brands...he uses minidsps to tune them, and it sounds great.

I'd rather use subs with similar response characteristics (and do in at least one setup). Depends on your goals but certainly some slightly mismatching subs can work well enough together, let alone the Geddes thing and all....

Like the guys said, you can mix and match different brands without any issues, but you do want them to have similar tuning and capabilities. It's also not recommended to mix ported with sealed subs.

If it's a possibility I personally would sell the old one and get matching new ones. That's just to have them visually match tho.

Well, ported and sealed subs can work together. But the problem is phase cancellations between the natural tuning of the port/driver and the sealed enclosure. This will become much more variable as you try to place and move the subs around the room. So it’s really a crap shoot as to what the FR will be. Even identical subs will respond differently being placed in different parts of a room.
I agree with pogre that if you have the means, I’d sell the velodyne, which IMO could easily be improved on, and get a matching pair.
If you were going that direction, what would be a working budget? And what size is the space?

Also, a umik will absolutely be a great addition to your tool kit.
