For when I'm ready to graduate beyond preloaded room correction software...

What are the toys, er:oops:, I mean tools the cool kids use for measuring and dissecting your systems performance?

I've already figured out the SPL meter is one. :)

What else, please?

Thanks!

REW (Free download), umic1, some cheap mic stands, assorted cables and a MiniDSP 2x4HD. Load up the laptop, measure and correct as needed.

Thanks NBK!

Mini DSP? is that for generating a sin wave for measuring output, diffraction and whatnot? Or does the computer act as your tone generator?

What about Multimeters and o-scopes? Ive seen some mention of those too? Obviously with a multimeter you can check output voltage and such... but the scope?

miniDSP makes a variety of products, the 2x4HD mentioned is a device that can implement eq, delay, various filters (popular for setting up subs particularly). I'd also get a measurement mic (the Umik-1 mentioned is another miniDSP product) rather than an spl meter, or a Dayton UMM-6 is another (you can still take spl measurements but a lot more too). REW (Room EQ Wizard) is great for taking measurements but also can generate tones and can even implement some suggested eq from REW with something like a 2x4 unit.

Getting into more complicated testing is where you might employ an oscilloscope, never went that direction myself. Multimeters can be handy for a variety of uses, but there are different types and quality levels to consider depending on your goals.

Thanks guys! Something for me to chew on as I get closer to setting up my system again.

Marantz AVR had to go for warranty service (only 3mos old), dropping signal, no faults detected though. should be back next week. Speakers and Subs and a power amp within 2-4 weeks! Very exciting time for me. :)
