First of all I would like to thank all of you for the great information.
Right now I have 2 questions
#1. I am looking at the Sony SXRD LCD Projection HDTV (KDS50A2000)
And the Samsung 50" DLP Projection HDTV In your opinion which would you buy. The Sony from what I understand is not a DLP but the picture is great.
The Samsung looks just as good (it is hard to tell the difference). At this point I am not sure which will give me more bang for the buck. I currenty have a Sony Wega and it good just not HD and only 27".

#2. I have been having a hard time finding a new TV stand that will hold my electronics and cable box. I have found one I like and will almost work the problem seems to be what do I do with the center speaker for the home theater system I own a Denon system an dhave no idea what to do with the speaker. What have you guys/girls done.

The Plan is Saturday pick up new TV and HD cable box Sunday do nothing but watch TV so your input is greatly needed.

Again I thank you
The Dr

Beware of the green blob problem with this TV.

Could you explain that to me?? I am heading out to CC in an hour to take what I hope to be the last look and make my decision. If plazmas half life was longer this would not even be a discussion. My TV is on almost all day every day.
Thanks

Do a search on google for the A2000 green blob/green haze problems. There is actually a class action lawsuit against Sony for this problem.

Thanks for the info.
I just returned from CC and I think I have decided.
It will be the Samsung HL-S5687W The 56" might be a little big but the price was right. IF all goes as planed I will pick my new TV up Saturday afternoon.
I was not inpressed with the Sony just by chance the Sony and Samsung were sitting side by side The Sony was darker and not very sharp My daughter even noticed that so I had the salesman try and adjust the picture he could not do it. We also made sure the Samsung was not maxed out on brightness (not even close).

Does anyone have a Samsung DLP?? How does it perform??

Thanks Again

What makes a projection television more suited for the purpose as compared to the alternatives?

Projection televisions require the (several hundred dollar) bulb to be changed every few thousand hours. If you actually use the television 24 hours a day, every day, I would expect you to be changing the bulb about once a year if you assume a 5000 hour bulb life. With $400 not being an uncommon ballpark amount for the bulbs, you'll almost be paying the television's cost in bulbs in 4-5 years.

Modern top tier plasmas have a half-life of about 30,000 hours. If you use them for 24 hours a day, you'll need a new one in about 4 years. LCD panels are no better, with about the same rated life.

It does not appear that any current technology is optimized for endless 24 hour a day use.

I figured that the Plazma would need replaced in about 7 to 8 year time frame. But with the 1/2 life I was concerned about the viewing pleasure. I do not know anyone who has a plazma so it is hard to judge if I would have any problems or not.
The Samsung (DLP) I figured the bulb might need replaced in 3 to 4 years but the screen would be as good as new. I fully understand that I will spend alot of money replacing bulbs but I would guess the price will come down a TV's change?? I just love the new 52" LCD but $3500 it a little much for me now.
Thanks

On average, 2000 hours is typical for the bulbs, with 3000 being a typical upper limit, and about 1000 being the lower limit. So if we assume the upper limit, you'll have replaced the bulb 10 times in the time frame of the plasma's useful life span of 30,000 hours.

I found a stand that accommodates an Axiom VP150 on the shelf below the tv
VTI PMS46, thats a fairly large center. I bought it from standsandmounts.com, I bought the black one.
I was thinking about that very same 56" DLP, let me know how you like it over time. I also really really like the 52" Sony 1080P LCD but I can't afford it. I am hoping the Westinghouse 52" LCD coming out in May might work.

I did it

Well after much debate I purchased the Samsung DLP. So far I am happy with my digital channels but the analog channel are not very good. I have noticed a big difference station to station (local broadcasts). The local cable company was out of HD boxes they said it would be about a month; they only broadcast 6 HD channels. The TV fits great into the room and it can be seen from all seating angles. Other that the local channels I am happy, there was even a $150 posted on CC’s web site so I brought it to the salesmen attention and he gave me another $150 off.
I looked at all of the discussion over the DLP,LCD and Plasma I bought this TV knowing I could change a bulb and “refresh” my TV to new, none of the other sets can do this, the half life of the plasma was tempting BUT the potential problems (screen life) out weight the bulb purchases. After all when more of the TV’s are out the bulb will come down.
On a side note I have a Sony DVD player and it plays standard DVD format the picture still looks great on my set. The Blue rays look fantastic but not worth the $1000. I know there are DVD players that up convert to HD and I might go that route later.

Thanks for all of the help

i have read a lot about changing the bulbs in the DLP's every few years, is it a hassle to this? also the new Samsungs such as HL-T5689S or T6187S says that they the LED for projection instead of the chip. they claim with the new LED that you do not have to change the bulbs, is this true??
