I've been reading the Shannara series by Terry Brooks over the last two years. I'm not much of a reader and I don't care if they are pulitzer material or not. They keep me entertained. They are finally going to make a series out of them...

MTV production? They haven't done much of anything half decent since Napoleon Dynamite (2004) and Beavis and Butt-Head Do America (1996)

The trailer looks pretty good.. Just don't know how closely they are going to follow the books?

They did indeed do a really nice job with that trailer! I read the first trilogy back when I was a kid, and I haven't read any past that (that I can remember, anyway)...but why the heck was a modern tanker in the trailer? Is Shannara supposed to happen in the future? If I ever knew that, I sure have forgotten. Then again, it has been about 30 years since I read it. :)

Adam, the Shannara series comprises of something like 30+ books and is basically a battle of good verses evil ..like most books. From a time perspective, it starts out with magic and humanoids that develop it further, develop weapons from it to ward/fight of evil...die out as man develops and takes over the planet, man then wipes themselves out through nuclear holocaust (hence the boat in the trailer) but magic is still present but hidden, and the leftover rebuild of mankind with the magic humans.

Its quite well done..

I really liked the Word & the Void series myself; Running with the Demon, A Knight of the Word, and Angel Fire East

As far as this trailer goes, I think (not sure) it's part of the Original Shannara Triliogy comprising of the following books, The Sword of Shannara, The Elfstones of Shannara, and The Wishsong of Shannara

It's going to be hard to do a live production of the Shannara series. Going to reserve judgement.

I totally agree with you. Lots of material, lost of background references made in the books, lots of dialog and character development. Lots to cram in.

If the trailer is any indication, it may turn out to be pretty good from a visual perspective.

Seriously, I have no life.
..., man then wipes themselves out through nuclear holocaust (hence the boat in the trailer) ...
How and why would such an event place that ship there? Now I could understand the "Force" doing it.;)

I read the Stone, Sword and a few others about 20 years ago, nice read, but I have already seen the move, it's called the Lord of the Rings.... In all seriousness, I don't think the post
Apocalypse world was even discussed in the first few books, but again, that was a long long time ago for me, I am 38

Heck they even filmed it in the same country and have Gimli in it!! well the actor who played him

Yeah the author was criticized for that first series to be almost like for like with LOTR but that's where it stopped. However, the Word & The Void series takes place before the apocalypse but after the faiere and magic world disappears.

The Genesis of Shannara series comprised of these three books Armageddon's Children, The Elves of Cintra and The Gypsy Morph takes place after the "great wars" and is life post apocalypse. :)

I'm looking forward to this. I've been waiting for movies of these and the Elric books for YEARS!!! I've read everything Terry's done. Although I couldn't really get into his Landover series. Hopefully they do the books justice. MTV has been putting out some decent shows recently if popular opinion of shows like Teen Wolf are to be believed.

Kinda weird that they are starting with the second book in the series. I just started re-reading Elfstones to get ready for the show. Funny enough I just re-read Sword a few months ago and I didn't think it was that great. Guess my tastes have changed since I was a kid. I actually met Terry Brooks at Comicon quite a few years ago. Had him sign my copy of Scions.

Love John Rhys Davies but he's not how I pictured Eventine at all. Also I don't like the look of the guy they've got playing Allanon. But we'll see.

I just hope they do it with a little more flash than they did with "Legend of the Seeker" I have read the first 8 books of the Wizard's First Rule, Sword of Truth Series(Terry Goodkind) and they marketed this thing so poorly I didn't start watching the TV Series until 3 years after it was cancelled because I didn't know it was based on the books.

I remember I read the first book, because it was almost 1k pages and I just had to see what he did with it.
