I make a decision today to buy a new receiver. My old one(pioneer vsx-917v) is about four years old so I said what the he!! My new one of couse is also a pioneer its a vsx-1120k. I have been looking for a new receiver for about a year so my question is did I make the right decision? Anybody around here have one as well? Comments and criticism welcome. BTW I hope this is the last receiver that I will ever have to buy.

A lot happens in four years in this hobby.

What "newer" did your old receiver lack that you couldn't live without that makes it imperative you buy a new one?

Unless you're preparing to die very soon, be prepared to ask yourself that same question every few years.

Well for starters the new receiver transfers audio and video over hdmi which my old one did not. Thats gonna eliminate some cables. Second I will be able to hook a amp someday so I am looking to the furture of my system another plus as well. Really way to many things to list right now.

Well, for starters, needinf preamp outs is a reason right there.

As for the HDMI stuff, I run video directly to the monitor and audio to the receiver so it's not really all that much of an issue. Oh, my receiver accepts MC alalog inputs so as long as the source provides MC analog outs (and it does) I'm set.

Now, about a few years years into the future, well...

Yes, yes & yes. Any time you can get expandability, additional codec support and reduce cables, you've done the right thing! :)
